Title:
Your Needs Will Determine the Best Host For You
Article:
Since the mid 90s, we have seen an incredible explosion in the web hosting industry. Today, there are literally hundreds of thousands of hosting companies and webmasters out there. It can be very overwhelming for those that are just beginning to explore the possibilities of what the Web has to offer. But it is encouraging to know that with a bit of study and patience, web hosting is not as difficult as it may initially seem.
In order to know what will best suit your web hosting needs, it is important to understand what your needs are. Just like following a map for directions to your desired location, you must first know where you are starting. Web site development and web hosting is no different. We will look at the most typical categories of web sites currently online. Basically, there are 3 major categories that the vast majority of web sites should fall into: personal/individual business, business/e-commerce, and information providers.
Personal/individual business web sites are on a smaller scale than the other two types. They are also among the more basic styles. Typically, they dont require a lot of space or bandwidth. Web sites that fall into this category are best suited for virtual hosting or free hosting.
Business/e-commerce sites are on the Web in order to bring large amounts of traffic and sales to their site. This requires more space and bandwidth to accommodate current needs with room to grow in the future. Collocation, dedicated servers, and virtual hosting are viable options for this category.
Finally, We have Information providers. They are the largest type of web site that most people will see. These web sites can be made up of literally thousands of web pages with all sorts of content and media. Information providers require enormous amounts of disk space and huge bandwidth. For this reason, the costs and resources needed to meet the needs of information providers, is considerable. Information providing web sites could consider investing in its own servers and support personnel to ensure proper support of their needs. Co-location servers and dedicated servers are also other options to consider.
Almost every web site that you have visited at one time or another will fall into one of these categories. It is a good idea to take a look at various sites to get a better idea of which one falls into what category. Whatever the categorization of your web site, if you have a clear understanding of how you want your web site to function, it will only make it easier to decide on the best web hosting service for you.
