Title:
A Quick Guide to Domain Names
Article:
Back in the mid 90s when people werent as active online, domains were plentiful. It wasnt that difficult to get the name you wanted. Unfortunately, those days have come and gone. These days, finding a good domain name takes some patience and creativity. Even if it is more difficult today to come up with and register a domain name, there are a few things that should be kept in mind when making a decision.
1. Make sure that the domain name is appropriate to the web site it is intended for. For example, www.tonysflyingwidgets.com is not appropriate for a non-widget associated company.
2. Try and keep the name short and simple as possible (preferably without hyphens). It is important to have the domain easy to remember and get to. Also, since more than likely, an email address will be using the domain name, the shorter the better.
3. Keep up with the administration of the name. Dont let it become expired. If it does expire, this will allow others to have a crack at purchasing the name and taking it from you. Then you will have to negotiate to get it back or change your site for a new name.
There are no guarantees in life and getting the perfect domain is no exception. The best thing to do is to follow this simple guide and be creative. The important thing is to be happy with whatever domain name that you select.
