Title:
Viruses Are Not Just Attacking People
Article:
Not so long ago, when people used the word virus it was to describe some organism that was infecting the human body. Today, when people talk of viruses it is of the computer variety. Just like the human kind, computer viruses are harmful and can show symptoms. But unlike human viruses that are generally found naturally, computer viruses have to be created by someone.

Protection from these computer viruses is now becoming more and more of a battle and the general PC world needs to join in the fight. There are various steps to take in making sure your PC is free and safe of any viruses.

The first line of defense against viruses is to be aware of them. Any one with a computer is potentially vulnerable to a virus. It use to be commonly transmitted through files on diskettes. But as our communication technology advanced so did the ways of transmitting viruses whether unintentionally or not.

Email is now the best way to catch a virus especially now with the growing number of always on Internet access users. It is important to be careful of any attachments received through email. With so many people using email these days to communicate, people are transmitting viruses without even knowing it. Be sure to know whom the person is that you are receiving email from. Any unwanted solicitation should be avoided and not even opened. Especially avoid emails that promise free products or have non-sense in their subject line.

A great tool in the war against viruses is a strong anti virus protection program. There are many being offered these days from companies such as Symantec and McAffee. Many good anti virus software is available for free as well. As more and more viruses are being created, anti virus programs can become outdated. But by subscribing for update services through your anti virus software creator, it can keep your system protected from the latest and greatest viruses.

As mentioned earlier, email is the main source of infection potential. Setting your anti virus software to scan both incoming and outgoing email is a good step in protecting not only your computer but any other computer that you send email to. This also frees you from having to manually scan for viruses, although, setting up a schedule of regular virus scanning of the hard drive can provide added piece of mind.

It is unfortunate that it is easier to neutralize computer viruses than human viruses. But as we put more of ourselves online for the world to see and communicate with, it is good to know that there are security measures we can take to keep us safe.
