Title:
ASP and Web Hosting
Article:
Before discussing ASP web hosting it is a good idea to first look at what ASP is. ASP stands for Active Server Pages. They are basically HTML pages that have ASP code in them that are processed before the web site is sent to the visitor. ASP allows web pages to be dynamic meaning visitors to the web site utilizing ASP will be able to interact with the different web pages of the site. The pages can change depending on what the visitor of the site wishes to do and the actions that are made. ASP commonly will have a database that is linked to the site where visitors can customize their personal setting or, for most business web sites, interact with the ordering system.
The basic way that ASP works is that when a request is made for a web site, the server will first process the HTML code and then process the ASP code. It is important when using ASP that you run it under a Windows 2000 server. It is possible to run ASP under another environment such as Unix but this could create compatibility issues. Also, the database program that will be used in conjunction with ASP should be the same as the one offered on the web host server. Again, this is more for compatibility issues and ease of use.
