Title:
Reseller Web Hosting
Article:
In reseller hosting, an authorized dealer offers web hosting packages to the public that are not their own but that is offered by a web hosting provider. Essentially, the authorized dealer acts as a salesman and typically receives a commission for the sale.
Web hosting providers benefit from resellers because it increases their business and expands their market and sales without any major costs to themselves. It is in their best interest to use the reseller market for the reasons just mentioned but also that less focus can be placed on getting customers and redirected to serving their current customers.
Resellers can generally offer the same hosting options that web host providers offer such as shared, dedicated, and co-location web hosting. Some resellers might branch out to offer brick and mortar locations. In addition to the typical hosting plans, resellers can also provide services of domain name registration and search engine optimization.
The cost of becoming a reseller varies based on what to resell and what kind of reselling will be done. If the plan is to just earn commissions by referring potential clients to the web host provider then very little is needed. Basically all that is needed is a personal computer and an internet connection. Some hosting providers will have reseller packages already set up. All that would be required is a small initial start up fee and business can begin.
For those that may be new to web hosting, it is a good idea to start off small. Remember, you have to learn how to walk before you can run. Then as your experience and confidence increase then your business can grow with you.
Probably the most attractive aspect of reselling is that there is very little start up costs. In addition, since this is less of a technical area and more of a sales aspect, it is not necessary to know all the ins and outs of the hosting business. Really the most beneficial skill would be in account management. A definite plus to that is in sales and marketing. Of course, being technically skilled in web hosting wouldnt hurt either. The technical side of web hosting should all be handled by the originating web hosting provider. This means that you dont need a whole staff of support personnel.
Of course, there are some things to be aware of when it comes to reselling. Since you are basically a third party, when problems arise that may be technical in nature, support may come a bit slower for your clients as the originating hosting provider takes care of that. There are times also if the client is not aware that you are a reseller they immediately avoid your services. With all business, there are no guarantees but it is easier to deal with the lows if you are prepared ahead of time.
Some strategies that may help make reselling a success begin with a good marketing strategy. The easiest way to begin is to find message boards and forums where you can share about your new enterprise. This a great place to discuss and share why they should go with you for their hosting needs. Once business is steady you could invest in advertising campaigns and links to various web sites.
There are various ways to start generating sales and it is up to you to decide what works best. Probably the best strategy is a combination of many different approaches. Again, not all strategies work for everyone. What works for one doesnt work for all. By know yourself and your talents, which marketing strategy suited for you should make itself apparent.
