Title:
Web Design In A Flash
Article:
If you have visited many web sites today you will notice that a lot of sites are using animation to enhance their look. More than likely they are using an animation software package called Flash developed by Macromedia.
Flash gives web sites a way to look more attractive to visitors. One of the more common Flash elements is the Flash button. But the capability of what Flash can offer a web site often seems without bounds. It is most effective in generating initial appeal to first time visitors to the web site. Animation will definitely be an eye catcher. But what can seem like a strength can also be a weakness. There are some things to consider when using Flash animation.
There is the possibility of using too many Flash animations. Too many animations can seem like you are being bombarded with images similar to the endless lights in Las Vegas. At first it may be appealing but when visitors come back to the site it may be more of a headache generator. Cookies could be setup to help eliminate this problem by diverting returning visitors directly to the real content of the web site.
Because these are animations, which contain graphics and images, the file size can be considerable relatively speaking. Remember that visitors need to load these images to their web browser so keep it small. Having other things load first may give a brief intermission until the animation loads so that visitors will stay interested. On average, visitors look at web sites for about 15 seconds before moving on. So it is possible that visitors will mover to the next web page before the animation had time to load.
Not all web sites are suited for Flash animation. The content of a web site is a good indication of whether or not animation will enhance it. For example, government sites will probably have very little use for animation, as they are more for providing information than any concern for appeal to visitors. On the other hand, a graphic design firm may use animation extensively to show their work and experience.
The bottom line is, animation should not cast a shadow on the content of a web site but to enrich it.
