Data Back Up Primer
Article:
Anyone who uses computers accumulates data. Data is basically information that has some meaning. They can be in the form of documents, music files, word files, web pages, and so on. We keep thousands of these bits of data on our computers and even put our identities on them. But what happens if the data that we accumulated on our computers suddenly disappeared?

At some point in our computer life, the data we store will get erased, corrupted, stolen, virus infected or some trauma that robs us of our data. What do you do? For many, the only option is starting all over again. Imagine how you would feel if all the hard earned files you had disappeared in an instant? And what if that happened to an entire business? They would be out of business in no time. A high majority of businesses go out of business within 12 months of losing all their data.

People are never truly able to fully recover from data loss. Once its gone its gone. There is a way, however, to prevent data loss from becoming a catastrophe. The best thing to do is to backup your data.

Backing up data can be as simple as copying it to floppy discs or comprehensive by getting a whole backup system. Basically, there are a number of ways to back up your data. The point is that any backup method employed is better than none at all.

How often you backup data is dependent on how quickly you accumulate data and how often changes are made. People who are working with data on a daily basis should run backups once a week. This way if something does happen you will have lost only one weeks worth of data. For most, once a month will be adequate but again it depends on how quickly data is accumulated and changed.

In addition to hardware options, there are software backup options as well. Microsoft Windows has a built-in software backup system included in the operating system. There are even online services that offer backup software and storage so that it is completely off your system and accessible at times needed.

If you have never run a backup before then the best time to start your backup is now. You can start your backup schedule from this date or set a schedule that will be more convenient. Just dont wait if you have never done a backup yet.

Keeping a backup of your data not only protects you from potential loss, but provides piece of mind to know that if something does happen you wont lose any sleep over it.
