This can be a major advantage as the purpose will more than likely be the same as the one already set for your brick and mortar store. If you dont have this advantage it is even more critical to have a purpose laid out.
What your purpose is for your web site will largely affect the content and design that will go in it. For example, if your business is service oriented, reliability and trust may be characteristics of your business that you want to get across. So having testimonials, articles, and industry recognition should all be a part of the web site.
Know who your customers are
It is a common mistake to try and market to everyone on the planet. Because people are different, this is impossible not to mention impractical. The key is to select a target audience and cater to their needs and concerns. Constantly ask yourself questions pertaining to your target customers. Questions like what is the age range of my customers? Or what information will they want?
Show that you are unique
There may be a thousand other site just like yours offering the same thing you are. It is important to show your potential customers what is so special about your site. Show them what distinguishes you from the rest. Take a look at competitors sites to see how their sites are designed and what things they emphasize. This should help in determining the contents of your site to stand out from the rest of the pack.
These are the basic ideas when it comes to making your web site profitable. Whatever business you are planning to start online it is good to remember: If you fail to plan, plan to fail.
