Not to long ago search engines with pay per click programs sprang onto the online scene. Back in the good old days, accounts were activated immediately and traffic was also immediate. This technology is still available today but now it has changed somewhat. You still can open accounts but now they will take a few days to become up and running. Because the number of PPC search engines has increased, so have the prices for keywords on older search engines. On the positive side the newer search engines are cheaper.
The idea of PPC is very simple. You select keywords that you want associated with your web site. Then every time someone searches for that word in a PPC search engine, your site will come up. The person just has to click on your site and then you are charged whatever you bid for the keyword. Hence the term pay per click. So, in effect, you only pay when someone visits your site.
There are many PPC search engines around these days. The more popular ones are Google and what used to be Oveture is now Yahoo! Search Marketing.
